How To Care For Your Fine Feathered Friend!
The Cage. Your bird needs space to stretch its wings. Select a cage with plenty of room to move around in - you cant go wrong by providing extra space. A cage that is too small, on the other hand, will make life less pleasant for your bird. A cage with a removable tray makes cleaning a very simple matter.
Perches. Perches are very important and should be placed at a comfortable distance from food and water. By varying the shape and diameter of your birds perches you can provide them with a variety of footholds which will promote a healthy foot structure in your bird. Avoid cleaning your birds perches with water. The wood will absorb water and can remain damp. Resting on a damp perch can lead to unfavorable skin conditions on your birds feet. Use a perch scraper to clean your birds perch and protect the health of its feet.
Toys. Many birds will enjoy having toys to play with. Ladders, bells, and mirrors are favorites of cockatiels and parakeets. Be sure to ask us which kinds of toys are most appropriate for your bird - our recommendations will vary among breeds. Birds are remarkably agile. Be sure to outfit their cage with accessories that they can work-out on.
Grit and Gravel. Some birds require grit or gravel to aid the digestion of their food. Beak conditioners are advisable for many species.
