Water Quality. Tropical fish require water with specific degrees of hardness and a balanced PH level of acidity and alkalinity. The quality of your aquarium’s water can be easily adjusted with water conditioners and test kits available at City Zoo. We can help you choose the proper conditioners and instruct you in their use.
Water Temperature. Keep your aquarium out of direct sunlight. Sunlight increases algae formation resulting in the need for more tank maintenance. The heat from sunlight can raise water temperature and jeopardize the health of your fish. Tropical fish live comfortably at 78 degrees Fahrenheit - do not let the tank water deviate by more than 2 degrees in either direction. Keeping your aquarium away from heating and cooling ducts will help ensure stable water temperature.
Aquarium Decoration. There are many decorative products available that enable you to create a wide variety of “decors”. Plants, rocks, colored gravel, tank ornaments and backgrounds can be used to create any look you want. There is no evidence that fish prefer one decor over another, but we do know that they enjoy the steady stream of bubbles that flow from air stones.
