Good Housekeeping. Small animals like to burrow and build nests. You should provide your pet with plenty of bedding. Be aware that small animals have sensitive lungs, which predisposes them to respiratory infection. Use bedding that is free of additives, preservatives, chemicals or dust. Clean your pet's bedding at least every other day. Be sure to remove all of the soiled bedding and waste. At least once a week, throw away all of the old bedding and clean the cage thoroughly.
Nutrition. All small animals eat basically the same food. However, some of their nutritional needs differ and you should check with your veterinarian or our staff to ensure your pet is getting the vitamins and minerals it needs. Your pet will hoard food, so make sure all fresh vegetables are eaten and not hidden away, where they might spoil. When digging or burrowing, your pet may fling litter and waste, contaminating its water. Use a water bottle and change the water daily.
Toys. Chew toys are an absolute must. The incisors of small animals grow continuously. Your pet will need a chew toy to keep its teeth filed down.
